School clubs are a great way for students with similar hobbies to meet. If you find that your school
doesn't offer any extracurricular (课程之外的) activities that interest you, then start your own club. It's
really not that hard and could have a terrific pay-off (回复).
Step 1: Check with the principal's office to make sure the club you want to start doesn't already exist.
Step 2: If it doesn't, find out your school's requirements for setting up a new club. Most schools
welcome clubs so the process should not be too hard.
Step 3: Get a sponsor (发起人) for your club. Usually, a teacher or other school official needs to be
responsible for students' extracurricular activities. In certain examples the sponsor can either attract or
sicken (使嫌恶) possible members, so be mindful of who you choose to sponsor your club.
Step 4: Recruit club members. Get permission to post notices announcing your new club, and include
a contact person for interested students.
Step 5: Schedule a meeting to discuss what activities your club will pursue (致力于). Use this time to
try to focus on a direction of the club so that no one is getting into something they did not plan for.
Step 6: Set up a structure for your club. Select officers and decide who will be responsible for what.
Step 7: Make plans to raise any necessary funds. Try to contact a local businessman who might be
    interested in your club.

    D. 激励
    2. What does a sponsor usually serve as for a school club?

Sydney-Mobile phone (手机) has become a problem for middle schools. Some middle schools in Australia
have banned (禁止) students from carrying mobile phones during school hours.
Mobile phone use among children has become a problem for the school this year. Several children have got
mobile phones as Christmas gifts, and more students want them.
Mary Bluett, an official, said mobile phone use is a distraction (分心的事) to students during school hours
and it also gives teachers so much trouble in their classrooms. Teachers were also saying that sometimes
students might use phone messages to cheat during exams.
She said some schools had tried to ban mobile phones. Some parents felt unhappy because they couldn't get
    in touch with their children.
Many teachers said students should not have mobile phones at school, but if there was a good reason, they
could leave their phones at school office. They also said there were many reasons why the students should not
have mobile phones at school: they were easy to lose and were a distraction from studies.

I was waiting for the bus to take me down from the Janiculum Hill into the city of Roma when I turned
and saw black smoke rising into the sky. It seemed to be coming from my studio, a small, cabin-like study
built up against the ancient Roman wall. I'd arrived there three weeks before with my most important thing:
the first draft (手稿) of my new novel.
The smoke? I thought of the electric coil (电热棒) I'd been using to heat water for the endless cups of tea
I need to fuel my writing. What if I had started heating water and forgotten about it? I supposed the coil had
turned over from the cup and started a fire that would not only destroy the studio but also the pages of work
I had spent years on and I could never rewrite.
I hurried back, but soon saw that the smoke came from the old leaves and branches in the neighbor's
garden. I felt relieved (轻松的). But since I was now so close, I went into my study to have a look anyway.
The electric coil was red, and the water I'd meant to use for tea before I left had all boiled out of the cup
that had already turned over and the red-hot coil had toppled (倾斜) onto the desk and was burning the wood.
My pages that might have burnt in a second were only inches away.
Drawn by the smoke, I'd come back just in time. "Thank God" I said. Of course, thank my luck.

British towns and cities have rich experience in providing accommodation (膳宿) for students and there
are many cheap, comfortable and safe places to live.
You should always try to arrange your long-term accommodation before leaving home. Your school
should be able to help you with it. When you are accepted by a school, you will usually receive a package of
information including accommodation information. Complete the accommodation application form and return
it before the deadline (最后期限). If the school accommodation is not available, the accommodation advisory
(顾问的) office of your school can help you find private accommodation.
If you're coming to the UK for the first time, accommodation provided by your school might be the most
suitable choice. This is a choice taken by more than half of the international students. There are plenty of
    advantages of living in accommodation provided by the school: you can live close to where you are studying;
you will get to know other students easily; and most importantly, you will be living in a safer environment.
This kind of accommodation is also affordable: a room in a self-catering (自己做饭的) student apartment
usually costs from 180 to 360 pounds per month. To live in a place where meals are included you are expected
to pay from 320 to 400 pounds per month.
If you choose to rent accommodation in private houses, the choices are lodgings, private hostels (招待所)
and bedsits (卧室兼起居室). In a lodging, your landlord/landlady lives in the same house, possibly with his /
her family, and prepares meals for you. For hostel accommodation and lodgings where meals are included,
you can expect to pay from 300 to 400 pounds per month. For bedsit, you would pay from 200 to 380 pounds
    per month.

I am an active girl, and I speak and laugh loudly in the classroom, like a boy. I don't care about small
matters. On the contrary, my neighbor, the girl who sits next to me, speaks quietly and dare not do the
things I often do. I can understand this.
What I can't stand is that she often gets angry with me about small things. How can I get along with
