The earth has warmed by about half a degree (0.5) over the last 100 years. It could be getting warmer on its own, but many scientists think that people are making the Earth warmer by making a greenhouse effect (温室效应). The greenhouse effect is important. Without it, the Earth would not be warm enough for us to live on. But just a little warmer than it is now could cause problems for humans, plants and animals. Many of things we do every day can change the Earth's temperature by sending greenhouse gases into the air. We send greenhouse gases into the air when we watch TV, turn on lights, dry hair, play video games, wash or dry our clothes or drive cars. The rubbish from factories and homes also produces greenhouse gases. Even a small change in temperature can affect our weather. This can cause changes in the sea levels, the air, flooding, and our fresh water. The change in the temperature can also cause changes in the living places for animals and plants, endangering many animals. Global warming (全球变暖) is a big problem, and every little bit we do can help. We can save electricity. We can save energy in other ways such as by taking buses or walking rather than driving cars. We can recycle to reduce the rubbish and save natural resources such as trees, oil and metals. We can buy products that don't do bad to the environment and we can turn to solar energy. Remember the little bit that you do will bring a better world. |
1. _________ does not send greenhouse gases into the air? |
A. Turning on a light B. Walking to school C. Driving a car D. Watching TV |
2. Without the greenhouse effect, we would _________. |
A. not be able to live B. be safer C. have a cleaner earth D. have a better world |

Millions of young people are writing blogs. Millions of others are reading them. The word "blog" is a short way of saying Web log. Many popular Web sites now offer free, easy ways to create personal Web pages and fill them with writings and pictures. Web sites called "Facebook" and "My Space" are some of the most popular blog sites for young people. Many young adults use their blogs to write about daily activities and events in their lives. They also provide a place for people to write their ideas and opinions and how they think of others' ideas. Blogs offer young people a place to show their writings and feelings. They can also be helpful to connect young people with others. But blogs can become dangerous when they are read on the Internet by millions of people all over the world. Recent studies show that young people often provide their names, age and where they live on the Internet. That may not be safe for them. This personal information puts them at risk of being searched out by dangerous people who want to hurt them. Many students do not know about privacy and are surprised to learn that adults can read their personal daily records easily. Students can also get into trouble when they put information about others on their blogs. As a result, many schools have banned the use of blogging web sites on school computers. Many schools have also begun teaching parents about the web sites. Parents should know what their children are doing online and should read their blogs to make sure they are not giving out private information. One way to keep away from these problems is to use programs so that blogs can be read by "friends only". People can read the website only if they know a secret word chosen by the blogger. |

There are thousands of things to be sold that are of all colors and shapes in a supermarket, making you believe that they are good enough for you to have a try. How? Packaging (包装) is the quiet but persuading (有说服力的) salesman. There on the shelves, each bottle, can and box has been carefully designed to speak to the inner self of the consumer (消费者), so that he is buying not only a product (产品) but also his belief in life. Scientists have studied on this and found that the look of the package has a great influence (影响) on the "quality" of the product and on how well it sells, became "Consumers generally cannot tell between a product and its package. Many products are packages and many packages are products," as Louis Cheskin, the first social scientist studying consumers' feeling for packaging, noticed. Colors are one of the best tools in packaging. Studies of eye movement have shown that colors draw human attention quickly. Take V8 for example. For many years, the bright red color of tomatoes and carrots on the thin bottle makes you feel that it's very good for your body. And the word "green" today can keep food prices going up. Shapes are another attraction.Circles often mean happiness, because they are pleasing to both the eye and the heart. That's why the round yellow M sings of McDonald's are inviting to both young and old. This new consumer response (反应) to the colors and shapes of packages reminds (提醒) producers and sellers that people buy to meet the needs of both body and heart. |

A. the pleasing color of the package B. the special taste of the product C. the strange shape of the package D. the belief in the product |

A. starting to notice the importance of new food B. enjoying the beauty of nature more than before C. beginning to like green vegetables D. paying more attention to their health |
4. What's the best title of the passage? |
A. Colors and Shapes B. Packaging Can Talk C. The response to the packages D. Colors and Shapes Can Draw People Attention |
