Galaxy saw a man and a woman who communicated with the sign language at the train station when she was on the way home one evening. She noticed that the woman asked the man for the direction. He told her that he did not know. Galaxy decided to help them. She had learned the sign language when she served as a volunteer in the deaf and mute(聋哑)school. Then she showed the woman the direction and left her email address to them in case they needed her help later. She received an email from that man the next day. Kazrim was his name. Galaxy replied his mail sincerely. They both started chatting online soon after and began seeing each other. Although they only communicated with the sign language, it never bothered her. Galaxy was fond of him gradually. Obviously, Kazrim was the same too. He presented Galaxy with a bunch of sunflowers and asked her sincerely, "Are you willing to be my girlfriend?" Galaxy was pleasantly surprised. She requested him to give her some time to persuade her parents. As she had expected, her parents were very angry after they had learned of their love story. Galaxy explained, "Kazrim is an excellent and a very optimistic person. He has a very positive attitude towards life and work. He cares for others always. He is 100% better than the normal. Moreover, the mute is still a human. He should possess a perfect and wonderful love." Her parents asked to see him, then. The very worried Galaxy took Kazrim home a few days later. When they were on the train, Kazrim told her, "I'm going to tell your parents I’ll be looking after you well with all my life!" Galaxy was deeply moved. As soon as they had entered the house, Galaxy introduced him to her parents. She said, "This is Kazrim." Just right after her speech, an unbelievable thing happened. Kazrim threw the gift away and held her in his arms tightly. He said, "YOU CAN TALK?" It was the same question that Galaxy wanted to ask, too. The four people were shocked all of a sudden. As a matter of fact, Kazrim always believed that Galaxy was a mute and he still fell in love with her deeply. |

A new study of 8,000 young people in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior shows that although love can make adults live healthily and happily, it is a bad thing for young people. Puppy love(早恋) may bring stress for young people and can lead to depression(忧郁症). The study shows that girls become more depressed than boys, and younger girls are the worst of all. The possible reason for the connection between love and higher risk of depression for girls is "loss of self". According to the study, even though boys would say "lose themselves in a romantic relationship", this "loss of self" is much more likely to lead to depression when it happens to girls. Young girls who have romantic relationships usually like hiding their feelings and opinions. They won't tell that to their parents. Dr. Marianm Kaufman, an expert on young people problems, says 15% to 20% young people will have depression during their growing. Trying romance often causes the depression. She advises kids not to jump into romance too early. During growing up, it is important for young people to build strong friendships and a strong sense of self. She also suggests the parents should encourage their kids to keep close to their friends, attend more interesting school activities and spend enough time with family. Parents should watch for signs of depression—eating or mood changes—and if they see signs from their daughter or son, they need to give help. The good news is that the connection between romance and depression seems to become weak with age. Love will always make us feel young, but only maturity(成熟) gives us a chance to avoid its bad side effects. |

A. Romance is a two-edged sword for adults B. Parents should forbid their children's love lives. C. Puppy love may bring young people depression. D. Romance is good for young people. |

A. Young girls who always hide their feelings and opinions. B. Young boys whose parents watch for their behavior. C. Young people who have a strong sense of self. D. Careless parents whose children are deep in love. |
3. What can be inferred from the passage? |
A .Lacking love can lead young people to grow up more quickly. B. The older a woman is, the less likely she seems to lose herself in romance. C .Parents should help their children to be aware of the signs of depression. D. Early love makes young people keep close to their friends and parents. |
4. What's the author's attitude towards puppy love? |
A. Confused. B. Scared. C. Disinterested. D. Disapproving. |
LONDON—Here's a new warning from health experts: Sitting is deadly. Scientists are increasingly warning that sitting for prolonged(持续很久的)periods—even if you also exercise regularly—could be bad for your health. And it doesn't matter where the sitting takes place—at the office, at school, in the car or before a computer or TV— just the overall number of hours it occurs. Several studies suggest people who spend most of their days sitting are more likely to be fat, have a heart attack or even die. In an editorial published this week in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, Elin Ekblom-Bak of the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences suggested that authorities rethink how they define physical activity to highlight the dangers of sitting. While health officials have issued guidelines recommending minimum (最少的) amounts of physical activity, they haven’t suggested people try to limit how much time they spend in a seated position. "After four hours of sitting, the body starts to send harmful signals," Ekblom-Bak said. She explained that genes regulating (调节) the amount of glucose (葡萄糖) and fat in the body start to shut down. Even for people who exercise, spending long periods of time sitting at a desk is still harmful. Tim Armstrong, a physical activity expert at the World Health Organization, said people who exercise every day—but still spend a lot of time sitting—might get more benefit if that exercise were spread across the day, rather than in a single bout (一回). Still, in a study published last year that tracked more than 17,000 Canadians for about a dozen years, researchers found people who sat more had a higher death risk, whether or not they exercised. "We don't have enough evidence yet to say how much sitting is bad," said Peter Katzmarzyk of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, who led the Canadian study. "But it seems the more you can get up and interrupt this sedentary (坐着的) behavior, the better." Figures from a U.S. survey in 2003-2004 found Americans spend more than half their time sitting, from working at their desks to sitting in cars. Experts said more research is needed to figure out just how much sitting is dangerous, and what might be possible to offset those effects. "People should keep exercising because that has a lot of benefits," Ekblom-Bak said. "But when they're in the office, they should try to interrupt sitting as often as possible," she said. |

Over the years, the devoted volunteers of Save-A-Landmark have helped to protect dozens of interesting landmarks. They've kept the World's Largest Rocking Chair, in Mississippi, from wearing out. They've repaired the National Civil Rights Museum, in Memphis, Tennessee. They've even helped to restore(整修) the Birthplace of the Ice Cream Sundae, in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Now, ten years later, Save-A-Landmark is celebrating its 10th anniversary(周年纪念日) by saving President Abraham Lincoln's Cottage, in Washington, D.C. President Lincoln's Cottage is the first Save-A-Landmark site to be located(位于) in the nation's capital. About 50 volunteers joined in the event, which took place on September 16. One of those volunteers was actor Sam Waterston, of NBC's Law& Order. Waterston has acted Lincoln on stage and on screen. Even though he has become an expert on the nation's 16th president, Waterston says he still couldn't believe how amazing Lincoln's Cottage was. "This home is truly one of the better kept secrets about the man," Waterston told TFK. "He spent a quarter of his presidency(1861-1865) here, and he worked on the Emancipation Proclamation here. Even though it was like a summer home, he did a lot of important work here. It's a great place for kids to learn more about Lincoln's life." Hampton Hotels created Save-A-Landmark in April 2000. Judy Christa-Cathey is a manager for the hotel chain. She was especially excited about the Lincoln's Cottage project. "I grew up in Illinois, the Land of Lincoln," she says. In ten years, Save-A-Landmark has restored 54 sites in 45 states. Now Landmark can add another Landmark to the list: the famous house of one of the country's most popular presidents. |
