For a writer, there is hardly any great honour than winning the Nobel Prize for Literature. And for a woman writer, claim the prize is even harder, for only eight women won it since the prize was first awarding in 1901. Austria's Wlfriede Jelinek is the ninth and the first since 1996. It announced that Jelinek won this year Nobel Prize for Literature. She is recognized for her social critical novels and plays. Jelined, 57, who made her literary first appear in public in 1967. She has written play, novels and poetry. She is best known as he autobiographical novel "The Piono Teacher", made into a movie on 2001. |
